Change and Continuity

Chronology (or the order of events) is an important component of understanding the past. When looking at a timeline, historians don't simply find our when events happened or ideas emerged and why.  It's essential to look at the big picture and figure out why and how things change, and also why and how things stay the same. This broader way of looking at the past involves the other thinking skills as well, especially considering the the change will effect different people in different ways.
